Season-opening tour: Slovenia – a fling with spring

Slovenia – a little pinch of the Mediterranean – has an incredible amount to offer and fascinates with seemingly floating vineyard terraces, historic towns, Mediterranean flair and dreamlike coastal landscapes. Not forgetting the visitor-friendly capital Ljubljana with its many parks and green spaces. We have put together a spring tour of this exciting country for you. The Postojna Caves
Our journey takes us via Milan and Verona to the little coastal town of Portorož, set in a sandy bay with a palm-lined promenade. Here we stay at the 5-star Hotel Kempinski Palace, where we are also treated to fine dining in the evening. The next day, it is time to dress warmly. We visit Slovenia's magical underworld – the Postojna Caves. They are among the most beautiful karst caves in Europe and fascinate with magnificent halls, galleries and passages. The cave's most impressive stalagmite is called "Brilliant". One look at it makes clear why it bears that name. After visiting the Postojna Caves, we go on to Slovenia's largest lake, Lake Cerknica. Here we are expected at a farm with typical Slovenian specialities and drinks.
Karst and delicacies
The second day in Slovenia is devoted entirely to culinary discoveries. After a visit to the town of Koper, we drive into the heart of the famous Karst region. This is the home of Karst ham and Teran wine. We enjoy an olive oil tasting and then visit a highlight of Slovenian viticulture – the vineyards of the Lisjak family. Their top wines enjoy an excellent reputation. Eleven of them have been awarded a Champion title, and altogether the estate has won over a hundred gold medals and further prizes. In the evening a boat takes us to the charming harbour town of Piran, where we are treated to a meal in a restaurant typical of the country.
The "green city" of Ljubljana
Another lovely day in Slovenia. You can choose to spend it as you wish. Or you can join us on the optional excursion to Ljubljana. The Slovenian capital is considered very visitor-friendly and fascinates with a picturesque cityscape of river, bridges and green spaces. Here you will enjoy an unusual city tour with a visit to the castle and all manner of delicious surprises. The afternoon in Ljubljana leaves you plenty of time to explore this beautiful city on your own.
